With all of the work we’re getting done, a lot of strangers have been inside my house. Most, but not all, are Queen City Lifers.
In an effort to find places I haven’t already heard of (which is easy and hard to do to me), I ask them:
If you knew the world was coming to an end in a few days, what is the one place you’d like to eat before that happened?
There are no wrong answers to this question. My answer, depicted above, would be White Castle.
I know it’s not a great restaurant. Rather, it is the great fast food restaurant, which gave us all of what we know today. Much like Empress Chili gave us other parlors, and chains like Skyline and Gold Star.
Hands down, it’s just my favorite fast food joint. Indeed, it is what I crave. If I knew we were all going to die, that’s what I’d want.
I will compile the answers of folks here as they come.
Divot’s (Closed)
A Ribeye at Jeff Ruby’s
Izzy’s Reubens and potato pancakes
A footlong hotdog with chili and a root beer float from Jolly’s
Gold Star or Skyline
But what about you? What would your last meal be? (You can answer if you aren’t from or live here, I remain curious!) Tell me in the comments. I’d like to eat there.
Deluxe black bean and rice burrito from Skyline (with oyster crackers). But that's tied with a cheeseburger from The Gas Light Cafe up the street from me in Pleasant Ridge, mostly because of the memories I'm making by eating there with my grandson, who moved here from the Pacific NW last year. Bonus -- I can walk there.
We moved away from Cincinnati (Anderson Twp) last year, and El Coyote was our last meal. That said, on every return trip since I've made a point to get a 3-way at Skyline and a pulled pork sandwich at Eli's. And although I'm not from Cleveland, if I could time travel before the end of the world, I might go back a few years and have a corned beef sandwich from Corky & Lenny's.
